It's like wanting to enjoy SQ perks but only wanna pay budget fare.

by alicyn renetta

Thoughts are all over the place. Just wanna get them off my chest before I vote.

> Want people to clear rubbish, sweep streets so you can live in a clean environment and serve you in coffee-shops, food-courts and restaurants BUT don’t want old people doing any of the above nor foreign workers in the country. WTF.  Do we then offer these positions to the increasingly more highly-educated who yearn to supervise but have no one to supervise?  Oh, and any idea how many jumped on the bandwagon to start their own foreign talent ‘import’ agencies barely a few years back?  Ask these people if they welcome FTs.  I can totally understand the sentiments if they are here to fight for the same positions you are eligible for.  Yet, it’s sounding like we can’t even accommodate their presence in jobs we don’t want to take up nor hope to see elderly people do.  It just boggles me.  Make sense, people.

> Complain about lack of apology for floods, demand it then say it’s too late when apology came. Want explanation, accountability and solution.
Complain flood still around, just 1 day after apology came.

> Calling them cheats, hypocrites giving priority to PRs’ flat applications. Ermm…which part of paying extra $10k for combined application sounds like a priority?

> Dun wanna pay adult fare but wanna attempt to understand adult things like voting. Be less impressionistic first.

> HDB really meant for less well-off but is that how it is now? What percentage of population owns a HDB flat? Do all of them fit the low income profile? Majority has an asset over their heads and many more will, given time and patience. The same people want government to make it affordable for them to take up liabilities as well – the kind that your feet trample upon to get you from point A to B.
In my line of work, HDB dwellers can easily afford to add 1 more designer item to their collection every effin month.

> Ask to implement minimum wage. There are people out there who’re happy without it, mainly employers. There will never be 1 minimum wage or income ceiling that everyone can agree on. People will still complain and be unhappy. Look where minimum wage got Hong Kong.
It used to be that they could hire someone for S$2.45/hr now S$4.40 and still not enough, say critics. Employees not happy enough, employers at least 1.8 times x number of hours x number of employees as unhappy as before. Curse the government or you who wanted it?
No minimum wage will ever be high enough to leave out none and make all employees happy. And low enough to keep employers from laying people off. Hello, increase in unemployment. This is a scheme meant for 10% of the population. Doubling the pay means employers can only keep half the people. Government improve life of 5% of its people and throw 5% of population into the dumpsters, ok?
Why settle for minimum wage when we already have a much better WIS that encourages people to work and helps employers to keep people employed?
Because we just want things that others have, such as Opposition and minimum wage? I’m not sure which is the lesser evil – want it knowing it will bring no good or NOT KNOWING what use it is of to you. Starting to sound like a NIKE slogan: just WANT it!

> PAP put in a lot of money to encourage companies to send their staff for training by heavily subsidizing course fees and even paying the employees pay when they are on course. Companies actually ‘profit’ when they do train their staff. Subsidy for training lower-educated staff above 40 years old(OLDER) is significantly higher than those below. What for? So that they can gain the skills needed to keep up with the times and stay employed. So that one need not collect carton boxes, wash dishes, clean toilets, clear rubbish and work at construction sites at the age of 69. I do agree it is somewhat sad to be working at that age instead of enjoying retirement but that’s another story.
Question: then who will take up the above-mentioned jobs. Someone has to do it, and that someone better be strong and cheap.
It’s a disgrace to hear NoiSy people shouting for foreigners to get out of Singapore, furthermore at a rally.
Globalization, go figure.

> Complain PAP never connect with citizens
After FM & PM’s FB chats: why only bother to connect during GE?
You mean you actually bothered BEFORE GE?
I think the more social media-savvy candidates should do the above more often, like on several special days in a year.

> Remember to criticize YOG but forget to praise F1

> With the same resources available, insist PAP must play God and solve everything vs. Groundless belief that Opposition is the other God who will and can solve everything. ‘will’ and ‘can’ being the operative words.

> No explanation nor apology is good or timely enough. Are they even constructive in the first place?

> No income ceiling can be agreeably high enough.

> Easy enough to just focus on the ‘what hasn’t been done or enough’, too easy to overlook the good we’ve got going and discredit, not so easy to come up with the ‘how’ and actual implementation.

‘Big’ overused words this GE –
> CHANGE: the only constant, so consistently there we don’t recognize it. Don’t regret when you get what you asked for and it’s not as rosy as you expected it to be or as effective as they promised it would be. Just look to Japan, USA & Malaysia. Oh, by then, we would already be that First World government fully capable of overcoming anything. Right? Right.

> Freedom: bound in chains the day we were born. More so as we twist our desires into needs.

> Vote wisely/bravely/without fear/is secret
If you are pro-opposition, you’d probably be a proud one and since you believe them to be the ones who truly listen and understand, don’t you want them to know who you are, that YOU voted for them and want/need them to help? Secret for what?
At this stage, you should be unmoved or even put off by the PAP to care if they know you voted against them. You couldn’t care less for all the subsidies or you think you deserve it or you ‘re entitled to it anyway. So, secret for what?!
If you are pro-PAP, you’d want them to know too. That you have confidence in them and want them to work hard and improve.  So, secret for what?

> First World ^everything^
Based on my First World experience in Genting, First World sucks big time.
If a First World Government is one with alternative opposition voice(s), we already were one before this GE. Voices they have been given which made no sound except complaints of ‘don’t have own office’ – very constructive indeed.

Gotta sympathize with PAP. Precisely, because they are the boss of this country, people expect a whole lot more from them. Because the opposition are just like you and me, we expect less and whatever little they have to offer is magnified and appreciated ten-fold.
Other kids parents always seem ‘cool’-er than your own. Always.
Workplace scenario: boss pays salary, gives bonus, promotes you, gives you leave and medical benefits. When he travels and comes back with sweets as souvenirs, you don’t think it sweet of him. You might even think he’s trying to bribe you and you refuse to be, simply because he’s in power. WHEN a colleague travels and comes back with the same things, you’d be like ‘omg’ because you can identify with both your status of being less privileged than the boss. Sweets very expensive. And this person doesn’t take care of your livelihood.
Life is unfair like that.
It’s all about expectations and managing them. Yes, we all have to manage.

There’s no running a race without training for it and paying the registration fees.
